Please have a look around my site and feel free to leave comments on some of the ideas. If you are traveling to a developing country, please take some of the ideas such as water disinfection via UV-A rays with you (and some bottles) and spread the word amongst the locals. You can do your part to help alleviate poverty and ill-health through simple & cheap technology such as a normal water bottle. Typically, on many of the islands in Thailand, water bottles are discarded in the bush, now you know what you can do with them!

I have been in and around S.E. Asia now for more than 20 years (where did that go) and am still appalled by some of the dreadful conditions many people live in. Even in established ‘kampungs’ or slums / shanty towns people don’t have basic human needs such as clean running water, a toilet, home security, food security, basic hygiene facilities and electricity.  Unbelievable in this day and age, really.

You can buy a meal here and give a dollar there but it makes no difference whatsoever, other than relieving your guilt, so, I decided to do something about it. The idea started out with finding a solution to the housing needs. The idea I came up with, kabook-i, seems like a really simple and obvious processl build with bamboo and earth, but it took me a couple of years to come up with the concept and locking system after many failed ideas.

Once I had it though, the seed of an idea of an holistic approach to housing and living started to germinate. One major factor of ill health in developing countries is stomach related diseases brought about by poor sanitation, lack of any sewage system leading to open defecation and subsequent pathogens in drinking water. This is where my idea for the human8ture toilet system came up.

When I started, I had no idea what a UDDT or ecosan was, but managed to get there on my own anyway, again, after many failed ideas. My approach is /was to create an hygienic  system that millions  could afford. Many householders have a colour TV and mobile phone but no toilet! I realised then that the system produced two vital products in humus and NPK (poop & pee) Composting & raised bed gardening with humus quickly followed. Then came the idea of collecting & storing rainwater instead of drinking poisoned ground water.

That is why my system seeks to resolve all issues to improve lives with a four-in-one holistic approach. It’s not perfect, (what is?) but it goes a long way to improving lives and allowing people to live their lives with security and dignity.

(there is no dignity whatsoever for an India lady having to lift her Sari to defecate in the village field)

You, dear reader, can help. Not by sending money – well, you can if you want to – but by spreading the ideas on this website amongst your friends and applying some of the simple ideas overseas.

Please spread the word about beautiful bamboo, it’s a great and sustainable alternative to rainforest wood and endangered species.

If you have any similar ideas on eco solutions I’d love to hear from you :  )
