BAMBOO BASICS: There are two types, clumping and running.
There are approximately 1500 species of bamboo around the world
Bamboo is found from hot tropical climates to cold mountains
Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants in the world: some species can grow 39” inches in 24 hours.
It is more common for bamboo to grow around 4” in a day. Large timber bamboo like MOSO, Phyllostachys edulis can grow up to 90 feet high and 7” wide Individual bamboo stems, or culms, emerge from the ground at their full diameter and grow to their full height in a single growing season of three to four months. Bamboo flower infrequently, but when they do, that species flower all at the same time globally for the same period of time.
How do I plant / grow bamboo?
1) FROM SEED: it takes about one year depending on species before seedling is ready to be planted.
2) FROM CUTTINGS – cutting from the stem
3) FROM DISSECTION: (cutting from the rhizome)
Bamboo needs sun (diffused in early stages) water, soil and NPK, aka urine
